Laser Eye Surgery (LASIK or PRK)

Book Appointment

Laser eye surgery is a method of correcting vision issues using a fine focus refractive laser, and is a viable alternative for many patients instead of corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses. The actual surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist.

LASIK is conducted by first creating a small flap in the surface of the eye. Then, the laser is used to reshape the tissue in the cornea to correct vision issues, after which the flap is closed and the eye is left to heal naturally. Recovery usually occurs within a week, and there will be follow up exams by your Vision Care Centre optometrist, one at one day, one at one week, at one month, and one at six months to track the improvements in your vision.

PRK uses a laser to ablate a small amount of tissue from the corneal stroma, under the corneal epithelium. The epithelium itself is removed prior to the ablation. Recovery for PRK is typically 10 days to 2 weeks for comfortable vision and full healing anywhere from one to three months. Vision Care Centre optometrists will typically perform follow up exams at one day, three days, five days, one week, possibly at 2 weeks, one month, three months, and at six months to track improvements in your vision.

Book a laser eye surgery consultation today to determine if laser eye surgery is your path to seeing the world in sharper focus, and to help you determine if LASIK or PRK is the better option for you.
