Giving Us a Deeper Understanding of Your Eyes

Digital retinal imaging is a procedure where your optometrist will take a high-resolution picture of your retina.

Traditionally, optometrists could only observe the retina but have no image to later refer to. However, new technology has allowed for the digital image to be processed immediately, so that your optometrist can review any issues within minutes.

At Vision Care Centre, we keep comprehensive digital records to monitor your ocular health effectively and detect any issues in the early stages.

What is Digital Retinal Imaging Used For?

Digital retinal imaging is useful for pinpointing signs of disease, degeneration, or damage to the back of your eye. With the high-resolution image, early warning signs of many issues can be detected. Some of these issues include:

Retinal tissue is sensitive and can be damaged by conditions that may lead to vision impairment and even vision loss. Early stages of eye diseases often do not have readily apparent symptoms, and can only be detected with retinal imaging.

By pinpointing areas of concern, your Vision Care Centre optometrist can help protect your vision and ensure your eyes are healthy.

Pros & Cons of Digital Retinal Imaging

Retinal imaging allows us to see early signs of eye diseases that may not be apparent to the naked eye. The test is noninvasive and generally painless, with results that are easy to interpret. The images can be kept on file so we can monitor treatment progress and overall ocular health.

However, digital retinal imaging should be used in tandem with other technologies. The images produced by digital retinal imaging may not always detect retinal bleeding, and cannot always see the outer edge of the retina.

At Vision Care Center, we are happy to help you with any questions you may have. Your vision is our priority.
