Myopia or near-sightedness is a vision condition that occurs when light entering the pupil is not bent or refracted to the correct angle and falls outside of your retina. The usual result is blurred vision of objects in the distance, with clearer focus on objects nearer to the observer.
Myopia is a very common vision issue that can be detected during a regular eye exam at Vision Care Centre. While more commonly detected and diagnosed at a younger age, such as adolescence or teenage years, myopia can occur at any age.
Treatment for myopia includes regular wear eyeglasses, contact lenses, and laser eye surgery.
Many parents are concerned about their children developing myopia. Yearly eye exams at a young age allow Vision Care Centre Optometrists to assess the eye and in some cases the use of specific lenses may be required for myopia stabilization and myopia prevention.
