Guidance & Treatment for Common Ailments

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as “pink eye,” is the inflammation of the thin clear tissue (conjunctiva) that covers the whites of the eyes. When the small blood vessels in the whites of the eyes become inflamed, they are more visible, which causes the red or pink colour.

Most types of conjunctivitis are highly contagious. The infection is most commonly contracted by children or individuals that work with large volumes of people. However, conjunctivitis is easily treated and is very unlikely to damage your vision.

Types of Conjunctivitis

Viral Conjunctivitis

Bacterial Conjunctivitis

Allergic Conjunctivitis

What Type of Conjunctivitis Do I Have?

The best possible diagnosis of your specific issue is to book an appointment with one of our Vision Care Centre optometrists.

When booking your appointment, please inform our staff that you are coming in specifically for conjunctivitis or “pink eye” so that appropriate tests can be performed efficiently.

If your conjunctivitis started at the same time you felt the first symptoms of a cold or flu, it is more than likely viral and should clear within a few days. If it lasts longer than 72 hours, please give us a call.
