Contact Lens Fitting and Exam

Request Appointment

Great Contact Fitment Starts With a Comprehensive Eye Exam from Vision Care Centre.

Are You Interested in Contact Lenses?

More and more patients are interested in contact lenses over glasses, primarily due to their comfort, appearance, and ease of use. Almost all prescription strengths for glasses can be fit to contact lenses, and most eyes can accommodate contact lenses with no discomfort.

Contact lenses are also available in a variety of styles and materials, including colored lenses, disposable lenses, moisturizing lenses, and special lenses for eye issues such as astigmatism.

If you are interested in contact lenses, please make sure to inform our staff when you schedule your appointment, as the eye exam and the Contact Lens fitting exam is longer than a standard optometry appointment.

The Comprehensive Eye Exam

Before any patient can be fitted for contacts, a comprehensive eye exam must be conducted. The reason for this slightly more in-depth exam is to determine if your eyes and prescription strength will work well for contact lenses.

Please be sure to inform the Optometrist of any eye issues or injuries during this exam, as some eye injuries can cause contacts to not fit correctly.

You may also request a prescription for corrective glasses during the appointment as well, should you wish to wear glasses one day, contacts the next.

Contact Lens Fitting

During this appointment, one of our optometrists specializing in contact lenses will discuss your lifestyle and regular activities, as well as other items that may affect the style of contacts you end up wearing.

Also during the meeting, the selection of disposable or multi-use, hard or soft, materials used, brand preference etc., will be discussed. With as many choices as there are now in the contact lens market, we are dedicated to finding the right lenses for you.

At Vision Care Centre, we are also able to provide multifocal(bifocal), toric (astigmatism), and high power lenses.

Fitment and Measurement

While your prescription tells the strength of lenses needed, other factors determine if a contact lens is right for you. Eyes are as individual as fingerprints, and a fitment session ensures that your lenses are of the correct shape and size for your eyes.

While the lenses are there to correct your vision, a poor fitting is uncomfortable. The fitting session will involve an optometrist measuring the shape and size of your eye to ensure that your lenses fit perfectly.

Trial Period

Our patients will receive a set of trial lenses, so that they can evaluate the contact lens experience over several days before making a final decision on your style and selection. Our Optometrists will demonstrate the proper care, maintenance, insertion, and removal of your lenses, and will also guide you through your first insertion.

Once your lenses are in, the Optometrist will evaluate how the lenses sit in your eyes as you look around, blink, and perform an eye evaluation.

Most trial periods are one week long, after which a follow up appointment will be conducted to finalize your selection.

Important Information to Know:

Can I sleep with my lenses in?

Some varieties of lenses, such as silicone hyrdogel, are suitable for overnight wear. However, if your lenses are not designed for multiple day continuous wear, removing your lenses every night before you go to bed is required. The reasoning behind this is that with your lenses out, your eyes are able to breathe, allowing more oxygen to permeate, as well as letting the natural saline in your eyes moisturize and sterilize the surface of your eyes.

Accidental overnight use is usually not dangerous, however if you wear lenses not designed for multiple day use and they are left in, your eyes may dry out and become irritated, as well as certain eye infections and diseases thrive inside a sealed, warm area such as beneath a contact lens.

What if I injure my eye?

If you suffer any sort of eye injury, including but not limited to punctures, cuts, burns, or serious scratches, do not use your contact lenses and contact Vision Care Centre immediately for an emergency appointment.

A lens inserted into an injured eye can aggravate the injury and increase the risk of infection. It is for this reason that Vision Care Centre strongly recommends having a pair of glasses of your current prescription along with your contact lens supply.

Neuro-Visual Training Testimonials

  • Before beginning my therapy at Vision Care Centre, I frequently struggled with my vision. As a university student, reading and taking notes in lectures were a significant struggle and using my glasses caused great distress. Headaches and motion sickness were very common with and without the use of my glasses. On a routine check-up with Dr. Ramesh, I communicated my concerns and was quickly enrolled in the neuro-visual training program. My wonderful neuro-visual trainer, Kelley would provide me with comprehensive tasks that would both challenge and help me develop understanding and control of my vision. I no longer use my glasses, suffer from headaches or motion sickness and have great confidence in my vision.

  • We want to thank you very much for all your hard work that went into Alicia's Neuro-Visual Therapy. It has opened Alicia's ability to do so much more both personally and in school, and what means most to us as her parent, we see how confident Alicia is in herself and in her school work. She was always falling down a lot and she always had her head tilted to one side. Now she is focused to get her tasks done on time and the best part, correctly...

  • I would like to thank you and Cristina for working with my son over the past year. They have not only trained his eyes but they provided him with a sense of confidence in his abilities. When we first came for our check up it was only mentioned on the side that his reading was regressing...We knew it had to do with some of his Chronic Lyme Treatment and we did not want things to get worse... We will be forever grateful that our son will not be another statistic of "lost kids" in the school system being medicated to manage behavioral issues which would have undoubtedly arisen the worse his eyes got.

  • Before eye therapy school was hard and not fun. School is now easy and I look forward to go to school every day. Eye therapy has helped me be more focused. Eye therapy has taught me how to read, write and learn in a different and better way. Thank you for all your help.

  • The staff at Vision Care Centre has been amazing while Nicholas has been undergoing his vision therapy. They have been incredibly patient while Nicholas was having some difficult weeks. Over the course of therapy, his focus in school has improved, his headaches have lessened and he has started scoring goals in Hockey again. We feel good and are happy with the whole experience.

  • The 36 week eye therapy program that Hannah has completed has been a very positive experience. The main benefits have been to teach her how to focus her eyes on a specific task and to have her eyes work effectively with the rest of her body. This has improved her reading, effectiveness and focus at school and her hand eye coordination...

  • When I started the program, I had trouble focusing and sitting and doing my work. Since I started the 36 week program, this has changed. I focused on getting better grades than I did in grade 2 (now in grade 3). I have got A’s in all subjects this year. Now I can sit and do my work, I am able to focus and I am not always looking around the room at other things. I used to need a ruler to read, now I don’t and I can read better and faster than I used to. I am doing great and have learned a lot through this experience.
