Transitions Lenses Can Make Any Pair of Frames a Great Pair of Sunglasses

Transition lenses – lenses that become darker when exposed to sunlight – are not a new invention. First released in the 1960s, they have become increasingly sophisticated in the five decades since their introduction.

Many people require prescription eyeglasses to correct their vision. This same prescription applies to any type of corrective lens, yet many people do not own prescription sunglasses.

How Transition Lenses Work

Sunglasses serve two functions:

  • Filter out harmful UV radiation – UV radiation (also called “UV rays” or “UV light”) damages the eye and can cause all sorts of problems, from retinal sunburns to cancer. A good pair of sunglasses will filter out somewhere between 99 and 100 percent of UV light.
  • Make it easier to see outside by reducing glare – This is the job of the sunglasses tint, which reduces incoming light and makes it easier to see when outdoors and exposed to bright light.

Transition lenses accomplish both of these things, but have the added benefit of being clear/slightly-tinted when indoors.

Are Transition Lenses Right For You?

If you’re looking for the best of both worlds then they very well could be! We recommend that you consider transition lenses- especially if you enjoy spending time outside.
